Changing media ... Trudeau leadership ... TerrifyingTrump

September 2016’s first MY CANADA commentary will be a mix of many items on the media including news, politics and other items deemed of importance to the majority of social network scanners.
Today’s media and the changes this column or blog commented on recently is either deteriorating or possibly just changing to suit the times. In any event it seems news coverage in most instances is dictated from corporate offices rather the traditional way news has been gathered and presented. In the past reporters and commentators were encouraged to explore different reflections on items strong enough to warrant coverage. If the coverage was libelous, detrimental to some individual’s personal reputation or simply too personally oriented editors and publishers intervened to convince the reporter or commentator to tone down or even change subject direction. It seems most media people are given the freedom to choose a political side using personal a position to promote preference. The change doesn’t appear radical until the realization most media is now controlled by corporate administration managers. Reporter and commentator control by corporate bosses will eventually lead to all media losing democratic freedom if it hasn’t already. A couple of indicators pointing to media changes are the demise of printed editions of major newspapers and movement of some recognized journalist commentators such as former Macleans political editor Paul Wells and Power and Politics personality Evan Solomon to mention only two while the list could go on substantially.
A major political change appears to be the leadership style of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. While former PM Stephen Harper ruled with an iron hand publicly directing most if not all his appointed ministers Trudeau uses a different approach. After appointing ministers the operation of the ministry stays with the appointee. When a minister stumbles reflecting an issue the media can pounce upon to criticize the new government it seems Trudeau is still content to leave dealing with the media to affected ministers. The style is well known in corporate circles often leading to high profile executive managers and administrators being replaced if the problem is too serious or lingers in media coverage. It will be interesting to observe if the Trudeau government continues to use the same methodology for the party’s longevity while progressing towards the 2019 election.
The Donald Trump Hillary Clinton battle for votes over the next couple of months will be as uncertain as predicting an outcome. At this point keeping President Obama for another term which cannot happen, or even bring back George W. Bush would seem preferable to either candidate winning a mandate. Of course the world will still turn as the seasons come and go even if the change is different than society is accustomed to experiencing. The future is unpredictable once either candidate becomes the leader of the present strongest nation on earth. Russia’s muscle flexing, China gaining financial and military strength and ISIS seemingly still a major factor could easily change the world. An extended process of change has never been the way of the world. Change usually comes unexpectedly without prior warning aside from hindsight after the change happens. Let’s hope the this time future change is not based on an American Donald Trump type of governing if the rhetoric currently making headlines is any indication.
